Pet Behavior Consultation
During the consultation, a comprehensive and customized plan will be developed to address your pet’s behavior problems. There are three components to a behavior treatment plan:
safety and management
behavior modification and training
medical recommendations and anxiety treatment
In the category of safety and management, you will receive answers to questions regarding which training tools to use, how to prevent injuries, and how to keep your pet happy. Behavior modification and training recommendations often incorporate specific behavior modification techniques and for dogs, leadership exercises, obedience, relaxation and impulse-control exercises. When necessary and appropriate, medical care in the form of diagnostics or treatment will be advised in addition to nutrition and exercise recommendations. If your pet suffers from anxiety, Dr. Posage will discuss and prescribe pharmacological anxiety treatments or alternative therapy options.
Office Visits
We strive to make our office a safe, comfortable place to evaluate your pet. There is no need to worry if you pet doesn’t get along well with other people or other pets. We schedule buffers in our visit times, so you and your pet will have our undivided attention. We want to exemplify how to set your pet up for success whenever possible, but are ready to help you learn interventions for displays of unwanted behavior. In person visits give Dr. Posage a chance to evaluate your pets physical condition as well as to prescribe medications if it is indicated. Office visits are also a good time for you to learn and practice recommended handling and training techniques.
Virtual Visits
We are happy to offer phone or video consultation for clients that are minimizing their exposure to COVID-19 or for whom travel to our office would be difficult. Virtual visits are conducted via phone or video conferencing (Zoom). For current clients, virtual visits are a good time to discuss how your pet is responding to the behavior treatment plan and/or to practice behavior modification exercises at home with live-time coaching. There are so many benefits to virtual visits
Less stressful for your pet.
More convenient if you live at a distance.
Video observation of your pet in his or her own environment.
Ability to train your pet at home where he or she can be relaxed enough to learn via video coaching.
Just as with our office consultations, new clients will receive a comprehensive review and explanation of their pet’s behavior. Please keep in mind that Dr. Posage cannot prescribe medication or make medical recommendations without an in-person examination of your pet. This can be arranged as a follow-up office or curbside appointment in some cases, pharmaceutical treatments can be coordinated with your family veterinarian.
